Hiking Trip

On saturday, May 10th we will organize a hiking tour to the summit Kosiak of the Karawanken mountains. The summit is located near Klagenfurter Hütte in the Bärental valley. With an altitude of 2024 m above sea level it provides a nice view of the Rosental valley, Klagenfurt and beyond.

The trip has an easy to intermediate diffuculty. For those who don’t want to hike all the way up, the possibility exists to stay at the Klagenfurter Hütte where refreshments and food are served. On the way back we pass by the Klagenfurter Hütte again.

More details about the trip can be found at Bergfex.

We will meet on Saturday at 9:00 AM at the USI parking place at the university. Since we are going there by car we would like you to fill out the following form so that we can plan the carpooling.

Please register for the event via the google form: Link to Registration

You will need to bring:

  • Hiking shoes (or any other shoes that you are comfortable to walk in for some hours in rough terrain, waterproof shoes would be good)
  • Water and some snacks (though it will be possible to get this on our way at Klagenfurter Hütte)
  • Warm clothes (fleece, jacket against rain and wind)
  • Your car, in case you have one

The weather looks alright but there are some rain showers forecast, so bring your rainjacket:

GO Professional with Bitmovin

“Go Professional” is the new label for all the Student Branch activities in cooperation with companies. This means the nearby ones, in the Lakeside Park as well as those we meet in the upcoming excursions.

Our first partner under this label is the Lakeside Park based company Bitmovin. Bitmovin is specialised on video streaming and has international reputation in that field. They have experience with big commercial players, as Facebook or Microsoft, and contributed to popular open software projects, e.g. Firefox Browser and VLC Player.

In preparation of this event I met one of the founders who is a recent graduate of the local university. I can promise you there are several reasons why you should not miss his presentation which will be on May the 7th.
He will share his experience and knowledge on how to found and run a company in a competitive field. That includes usefull skills and how he got them, what matters when he hires new staff members or what to think about when starting your own business.
You get in contact with your future employer or the company partner for your master-, or PhD-thesis.
And you have the possibility to chat in a relaxed atmosphere with some drinks and snacks about serious and interesting issues.

So join on the 7th of May at 6 pm at the seminar room L04.1.1 in Lakeside Park building B04.
